INTRUDER DRILL
Listed below are the observations from the Intruder Drill held on Friday, September 21, 2012
* Classroom doors were locked.
* Students were quite in classrooms.
* The majority of the classroom doors DID NOT cover the window in their classroom doors.  Students/teachers could be viewed through the open windows.  Windows should be covered at all times.
*Some classrooms did not pull their  window blinds down completely in their classrooms.  Blinds should be pulled to the bottom of the window during a drill.
*Teachers should not call the office via telephone/walkie talkie during a drill.  An announcment will be made at the end of the drill.  This holds true for a true emergency.  Calls should only be made to the office if there is dire emergency.

PAINTING
The painters will continue to work in the office and hallways next week.  Please remember to take down all pictures hanging in the hallways.  This does not apply to the pod or mobile units.

ACCEPTING PERSONAL CHECKS
An email was sent out earlier in the week sharing that we are now required to accept personal checks.  The email included a statement to be placed on every field trip form being sent home.  Please include this statment on all forms from this point forward.

RECESS ON PE DAYS
There have been a few questions regarding not taking your children out to recess on PE days.  By law we are required to provide students with 30 minutes of physical activity daily.   PE covers this requirement.  We are going to amend our original statment regarding no PE on recess day.  Now this may be a teacher option.  Please know you are not required to take chilren to recess on PE days.  You may use that 30 minutes for classroom insturction if you so chose.  However, if you determine your class needs to go out on that day it will be fine.

ATHLETIC PASSES
Mrs. Scott has staff member athletic passes in her office.  These passes allow you free entrance to WSFCS events.  If you want a pass please see Mrs. Scott.

COPIER
Mrs. MacGillivray has provided us with copy counts.  We are not going to post the numbers this year.  However, you may receive an email inquiring about the number of copies made if it is extremely higher than your peers.

THANK YOU TO THE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT TEAM FOR YOUR HARD WORK ON CREATING OUR NEW PLAN!!!!!  WE APPRECIATE YOU!

EQ's MADE EASY:
Are you having trouble writing your EQ's? Do not worry.... they are written for you! Mrs. Cann/Mrs. Choplin have discovered that the EQ's can be found on learning village. Follow this simple route and you will find EQ's to match the pacing guide.

  • Log into Learning Village

  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will find all grade levels K-5

  • Click on the reading (for example)

  • Click on the pace guide

  • Click on the unit/objective

  • While reading the objective/standard you will see ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS & "I CAN STATEMENTS"

  • These are perfect examples of the correctly written EQ's and I Can Statements

We would encourage you to save yourself a lot of time/work/worry and use these statements that have been developed for you.

HOPE THIS HELPS AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THESE IN YOUR CLASSROOMS!!!!!!!

PAINTING: Soon our fabulous painters will move inside. Please continue to remind our students to be cautious around the painted areas.

Off to a Great Start

Happy Monday everyone! I apologize for the blog not being updated on time. I forgot to hit publish! I have enjoyed visiting your classes today. Just wanted to let everyone know that I will try to leave a brief note of what I observed in the class prior to leaving. I hope you will find this helpful.

Painting: As you can see painting has begun. Please remember to remind your students to keep hands off rails and walls. Thanks for your help with this matter.

Playgrounds: Please follow the recess schedules set up for you. Also, teachers should be roaming/roving around the playground areas to ensure students are following safety precaution. We encourage you to participate with your children if all a possible. This is a great way to get to know the students and the things going on in their lives.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK!

A Few Things

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR A GREAT STAFF MEETING ON WEDNESDAY!
The collaboration was fantastic and very informative. Your insights will help the SIT develop appropriate goals for our school next year.

Educational Field Trips: I have developed a form to be sent home to parents who request educational leave. If you receive a request regarding educational leave please notify Mrs. DuBose and she will provide you with the form to send home to the parents.

Bonus Annual Leave Days: The last edition of Common Sense (a WSFCS publication) has information regarding the use of the 5 bonus annual leave days allocated to teachers this year. If you did not receive a copy in your mailbox please speak with Mrs. Scott and she can share information regarding the annual leave days.

Painting: The painters are coming! Beginning Monday, September 10 the paint crew from the system will be here painting. They will begin with the outside doors and then move inside. Please make sure you and your students are cautious when you see them around the school. They will be painting the halls, the office and will touch up individual spots in classrooms. I will be sending out a message to parents on Sunday letting them know about the painting. The paint they will use is environmentally safe and order free!

Mark Your Calendars! On October 13 the district will host its 2nd annual STAND UP-STEP UP community bully walk. All schools are to a team of walkers for the event. It is for a great cause and will only take a hour/two of your time. Mrs. Mathews will be sharing more information in the upcoming weeks. Let's get out there and walk for a good cause.
