HAPPY PAY DAY!

First, I apologize for not blogging this week.  As you know some weeks are hectic and I have let this slide. For those of you that check in daily I will try hard to improve.

We have one item that needs to be brought to everyones attention---the alarm system and the ramifications of false alarms.  Each night Mr. Glenn sets the alarm as he leaves.  If a teacher remains in the building without his knowledge and leaves (walks down the hall) the alarm will sound.  Once this happens the admin. team is notified and we have to come to school to determine if there is an intruder.  Also, the police are dispatched.  We have had three false alarms to date.  It is highly possible that on the next false alarm the school will be charged.  We are asking that all teachers leave the building by 7:00pm Monday-Thursday and by 6:00pm on Fridays.  I will ask Mr. Glenn to make an announcement nightly.  We appreciate your work ethic but do not want to have to spend our school money paying fines that are avoidable.  Thanks for your help with this matter.

Have a wonderful day.

RECESS- WHAT TO DO WHEN IT'S COLD OUTSIDE!

When the temperature is 32 degrees or below we will NOT go outside to recess. Ms.Hopkins is going to attempt to be our very on weather girl.  Each day she will run announcements across the screen to let you know where we stand with the weather.  We are going to be using WXII to be consistent with our temperature.  Wind chill factors will also be an important part of the decision made as to whether or not we will go outside.  So keep your eye on the TV screen for updates throughout the day.

Thursday/Friday Updates & Weekly Events

This week is flying by so fast.  Thank you for all you are doing for our students each day!  I would like to take a moment to send a sincere thanks to our PRT's.  They are fabulous!  Each day they work with at least 5 different teachers and numerous students.  This is not an easy task!  They have to be flexible and easy-going to make this situation work.  I know they are making a difference with each child they teach.  So THANKS PRT's for your dedication to the students at Lewisville School.

Yesterday's fire drill went well.  We would like to remind teachers to remind substitute teachers, in lesson plans, to carry the safety bag with them at all times.  It would also be appreciated if teachers will remind students to walk out quietly and to remain from running and jumping.  In a real situation you would need to be able to hear all communications provided by the office.

GRADES 3-5- Class list due to Mrs. Dubose by 3:00pm on January 24th.  Mrs. Dubose will print the report card and submit it to the correct administrator.

HERE'S WISHING YOU A :

Monday, January 7, 2013

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

I hope your week started well.  Cathey and I continue to be impressed with all the learning we see going on in your classes.  As we talk with students they are aware of what is happening in class, what they are learning and why!  We know that many of you have felt overwhelmed this year with a new principal, new curriculum, RTI, Reading Foundations, etc.  You have all handled these changes with grace and style.  Your attitudes are positive and the students would not know that you are stressed at all.   With that said, I would like to take one thing off your plate.... from this point forward you will not be asked to turn in parent contact logs.  I strongly believe in calling parents and sharing positive news with them.  Like us, our parents are faced with challenging jobs, hard economic times, etc. and I know they enjoy receiving the positive news you bring with your calls.  Building relationships is key with parents. I hope removing this task will relieve you a bit.  I would highly encourage your maintaining some type of log to track your parent contacts and if time permits I would encourage you share positive words as often as you can.

Grade levels will continue to send at least one newsletter home per month.  It is critical that parents know what is going on in class and upcoming events for their children.  Please continue to turn in a copy to Ms. Hopkins at the end of each month.

We had a good SIT meeting Monday.  Megan is doing a fine job as our SIT chair.  The minutes will be shared with you via your grade representative.  Upcoming events include PTA/math curriculum night- February 5th.  All grade levels should present information pertaining to the new curriculum.  It is powerful to actually show the parents what the children are learning through hands on experiences.  In the past, I have observed teachers provide the parents with a "test/CFA" after the review of the curriculum.  That can be a very eye opening experience.  I have also observed grade levels creating make and take activities for parents and students to take home.

Spring Carnival will be here before we know it.  It is scheduled for April 26th.  We will need all hands on deck that evening to ensure this event is a success.  More information will be provided in the next couple of weeks.

I will be in a principals' meeting for the majority of the day.  I wish you a great day and as always thanks for all you do for our students.
Angie

HAVE A FANTASTIC WEEK!

Thursday, January 3, 2013

We have had another wonderful day here at Lewisville.  Lots of great things are going on in classrooms.  I am pleased to share that on several occasions we have observed students working in groups or pairs.  It was enjoyable to see the students learning and sharing with each other.  As Cathey and I have completed our classroom visits we have noticed that some folks are not following their posted daily schedules.  We know that once in a while folks will need an extra bit of time here or there to wrap something up but that should be on a rare occasion. We should not observe students completing math sheets during reading time, etc.

Just a reminder that PDP's are due to your assigned administrator by tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm.

THANKS FOR A GREAT FIRST DAY BACK!

It was great visiting each of your classrooms today.  The students were on task and you were all on your A game.  Part of my New Year's resolution is to update the blog more frequently...baby steps.

Listed below are some updates and reminders:

  • Emergency bags should be taken to special classes, lunch and recess.  They should also be taken on field trips.
  • Certified teacher PDP's are due to the assigned administrator on Friday, January 4th.  This is a correction from the blog which says PEP's.
